Pay Attention

Pay attention to what you're feeding yourself.
Are you storing away more positive or more negative?
You cannot mentally brand everything as negative and expect to live a positive, happy life.

Negative Feelings

Today I am aware that all my negative feelings
have been taped [recorded] in my memory from people and events from the past.
They no longer serve a purpose in my today.
I am willing to let them go.
I am willing to be free today to live in today.
I am willing to experience what today has to offer without being colored by yesterday's feeling.

Let Go

Today I am willing to let go of all my thoughts and opinions that are negative and destructive in my life.

Thinking

... thinking too much or in a negative way is almost as dangerous as not thinking at all.
(Hope For Today, 5 February)

The power to reason can be dulled when we fail to detach ourselves from the emotional content of a problem.

Self-Pity

Self-pity comes from concentrating on the negative aspects of life.

The Past

How do we let go of the past?
First discipline your thoughts to stop thinking about it.
Quit talking about it.
Quit reliving every negative experience.

Negative People

If negative people surround you, accept responsibility for attracting these friends into your life, or for agreeing to participate in the negative relationship. (Doreen Virtue, Ph.D., I'd Change My Life If I Had More Time, p. 97) 21 April 2013

Do You Have A Program?

The bottom line is that authoritarians have no room in their internal circuitry for middle positions, for operating in the gray areas where almost all human activity occurs. (Dr. Wayne W. Dyer, The Sky's The Limit, p. 66)

"Rigidity of thought" has many meanings, but for authoritarians it generally implies an unwillingness to entertain any thoughts that conflict with their own preconceived ideas. (Dr. Wayne W. Dyer, The Sky's The Limit, p. 67)

Dissolving your ideas, your habits, and your images is a way to cleanse and purify. All the many assumptions that keep your life fixed break apart as you take time to reflect and have serious talks with friends and maybe a therapist. (Thomas Moore, Dark Nights Of The Soul, p. 62)

One of the reasons for so much contemporary depression and ennui is the inability to see ourselves connected to something greater and more important than our own puny egos. (Dr. Wayne W. Dyer, The Power Of Intention, p. 123)

The particular means one uses does not matter, but to have a method, a plan, a specific spiritual program is very helpful. Simply begin with your heart, look deeply into it, and trust what you feel. Practice knowing and you will know. (Hugh Prather, in For The Love Of God, by Shield and Carlson, p. 176)

... smart men make an effort to simplify their lives, streamline logistics, and most especially, to weed out of their datebooks, as much as possible, people who are pains in the neck. (Gail Sheehy, Understanding Men's Passages, p. 163)

You have the right to say, "no" to time-robbing people and situations. (Doreen Virtue, Ph.D., I'd Change My Life If I Had More Time, p. 127)

Refuse to accept negative ideas about what you can't accomplish or what's impossible. Don't even talk to negative people while your dreams are still in the fragile incubation stage! (Doreen Virtue, Ph.D., I'd Change My Life If I Had More Time, p. 28)

I'll follow a daily program of reading which will help me to understand my problems and improve my outlook on life. (after One Day At A Time In Al-Anon, 23 January)

A Sudden Gem

Hope Diamond

It sometimes happens that the words of those who are unschooled, or those who are negative and confused, can bring us a sudden gem of thought that will help us. (One Day At A Time In Al-Anon, 12 November) 17 November 2012

Negative Thinking

When a person drowns himself in negative thinking he is committing an unspeakable crime against himself. (Maxwell Maltz in Touchstones, 14 September) 17 September 2012

Negativity

The interminably negative individuals we encounter on our path, if mimicked, will change our perspective on how life can be. (Karen Casey, Keepers Of The Wisdom, 15 May) 16 May 2012

Crisis

In every crisis there is a message.  Crises are nature's way of forcing change - breaking down old structures, shaking loose negative habits so that something new and better can take their place.  (Susan Taylor in Black Pearls by Eric V. Copage, 22 November) 29 November 2011

Negative Messages

Peace

...we must make sure that we surround ourselves with people who support and affirm us. We must let our friends and mates know that for our own health we will not tolerate their negative tunes. (Eric V. Copage, Black Pearls)

Problems that are buried inside us rather than brought out into the light work to drain us of spiritual energy. (Selwyn Hughes, Every Day Light, Day 189)

The ego is constantly asking, "Why can't I be at peace now?" The ego doesn't know that your only opportunity for being at peace "is now." (After Eckhart Tolle, A New Earth, p. 115)

Choose Life

Choose. It really is your choice. Once you make the right one. You see how obvious it is. (Steve Case, Everything Counts, 19 July)

[To] ... cultivate the gift of silence when speaking may aggravate the difficulty. (One Day At A Time in Al-Anon, 27 May) [Note: You may need to think about this one for a minute before it makes sense. It means that you shouldn't use silence as a weapon. Mr. Dickie.]

Whenever we are unwilling to face a negative emotion it implies that we are not in control of it, but that it is in control of us. (Selwyn Hughes, Every Day Light, Day 136)

Diminished Ego

[Beware that aging may bring a] ... diminished ego [that] then spends the rest of its days whining or complaining, trapped in fear or anger, self-pity, guilt, blame or other negative mental-emotional states or avoidance strategies such as attachment to memories and thinking and talking about the past. 1000th Posting

Stop awhile to reminisce and to pleasantly review happy little happenings and things you used to do. Today be thankful for pleasant memories. (Helen Steiner Rice, From The Heart, 7 February)

... you cannot have mountaintops without valleys. (Warren W. Wiersbe, Chapter-By-Chapter Bible Commentary, p. 178)

There is a generic term for all negative emotions: unhappiness. (Eckhart Tolle, A New Earth, p. 136)

Live your life in extraordinary ways. (Steve Case, Everything Count, 17 January)

This is the 1000th posting to Mr. Dickie's Blog.

Negativity

Negative states such as anger, anxiety, hatred, resentment, discontent, envy, jealousy, and so on, are not recognized as negative but as totally justified and are further misperceived not as self-created but as caused by someone else or some external factor.

Whenever you are in a negative state, there is something in you that wants the negativity, that perceives it as pleasurable, or that believes it will get you what you want.

I Want To Be Around You

When a person is negative, complaining, and disagreeable, other people stay away. And that person receives less encouragement and fewer opportunities -- because no one wants to be around him. (Andy Andrews, The Noticer, p. 14) 4/Jan/2011 14:53
