Free Will

The individual is as free to be afraid of a new venture as to be eager for it; free to bear the consequences of his mistakes as well as of his achievements.

Choices

We can control our choices, but we can't control the consequences of these choices.

Detachment

Detaching doesn't mean we cut people out. It means we stay present and loving without thinking we have to fix or manage the people around us. It means we stop trying to save people from the consequences of their behavior. Best of all, when we detach, we stop taking ourselves so seriously and start having more fun.

MYOB

I will concentrate on the things that are my concern -- and make sure which are really mine. I will keep hands off the business of others. I will not interfere with ... [their] activities, assume ... [their]
responsibilities or shield ... [them] from the consequences of what ... [they do or fail to do].

I'm Just Sayin'

Let me reflect how much damage I may have done and may still do, by saying the first thing that comes to mind. Let me realize that the worst reaction of unbridled anger falls upon me. What I say in a single moment of uncontrolled rage can have inconceivable long-range consequences.

Consequences

Outer consequences are not in our power to control; it is only possible to make an effort, and inner consequences always follow from our effort. (Leo Tolstoy, A Calendar Of Wisdom, 11 November) 30 November 2012

Consequences

(Photo: Mr. Dickie - dogs next door)

... most of what happens in a day is of little lasting consequence. (Karen Casey, Keepers Of The Wisdom, 14 March)

A long life does not always improve us; in fact, it often adds to our problems! (Thomas 'A Kempis, The Imitation Of Christ, Book 1, Chapter 23, p. 55)

If you had an extended illness or recovery from surgery or have grieved the loss of someone close to you, you know something about the isolating impact of illness and grief. (The Upper Room Disciplines - 2008, 7 June)

Anxiety, it seems, is the raw material of guilt.  At the very least, anxiety is a standard companion to good behavior. (Ratey and Johnson, Shadow Syndromes, p. 281)

We look at our fellow men too much from the standpoint of our own prejudices. (Elizabeth Prentiss in A Gentle Spirit, 1 April)

You always have options.  In every situation, you can chose how you are going to deal with it and how you are going to feel about it. (Dr. Wayne W. Dyer, Pulling Your Own Strings, p. 208)

[Blows or trauma to the head are never trivial.] Inside the brain, a car crash today keeps right on happening tomorrow and the day after; it is a terrifying process to contemplate. (Ratey and Johnson, Shadow Syndromes, p. 344)

... trouble comes to pass, not to stay. (Iyanla Vanzant, Until Today! 31 January)

... the easiest way to get what you want is to help others get what they want.  This principle works equally well for individuals, corporations, societies, and nations. (Deepak Chopra, The Seven Spiritual Laws, p., 31)

Many of us grew up in families with an addicted parent. (Touchstones, 6 January)

It is not a sign of loving someone to withhold information you think will distrub them. (Iyanla Vanzant, Until Today! 16 February)

If the best man's faults were written on his forehead, it would make him pull his hat over his eyes. (Gaelic Proverb, in Touchstones, 8 February)

"Mediocrity finds safety in standardization." (Frederick Crane in Pulling Your Own Strings by Dr. Wayne W. Dyer, p. 77)

Gangs are classic examples of mass cowardice. (Craig Nakken, Finding Your Moral Compass, p. 115)

Flawed Processes

Flawed assessment and decision-making processes are what tend to get many people into trouble and bring them disappointment, resentment, failure, and severe negative consequences.  (Mary Ellen O'Toole, Dangerous Instincts, p. 28)

******

Last night while channel surfing I found a very nice two-hour program about ventriloquist Jeff Dunham on Biography.  I started watching at the halfway point.  They repeated the program again immediately following the one I watched.  I stayed with it in order to see the whole thing.

In Maryland, where we live, there are many state trust funds earmarked for specific purposes.  For example, Chesapeake Bay Cleanup.  Millions of dollars in taxation have been approved to obtain the money for these trusts.  I watched a television report about how the lawmakers are diverting these monies for unauthorized purposes.  Of course, there is little discussion because they don't want the public to be aware of what's going on.  It's one more indicator of the fact that our government no longer works and that we have elected the wrong people.  I'd venture to guess that this isn't a situation that is limited only to the state of Maryland.  Enough is Enough!

It Might Have Been

Indeed, "it might have been" is the lament of the unfulfilled dreamers who ponder the past with regret over what they failed to say or do because they feared the consequences. (Dr. Wayne W. Dyer, Wisdom Of The Ages, p. 151) 14 October 2011

Audacity

... bad decisions always result in bad consequences. (Billy Graham, Hope For Each Day, 25 June)

******

Last night I achieved my first result recording twenty minutes of music from a cassette tape using the program Audacity. The program has lots of controls, so there is lots to learn. I saved the recording in the Audacity format and the WAV format. I didn't record the second side of the tape and I didn't attempt to break each track out into a separate file. Copying music in this manner is a very time consuming process.

Hard Drive Conversion to USB

No person in the world ever attempted to wrong another without being injured in return - some way, somehow, sometime. (William George Jordan in The Promise Of A New Day by Casey and Vanceburg, 4 January)

When we do not learn from the past or hear God and obey Him in the present, we destroy our future. (Warren W. Wiersbe, Chapter-by-Chapter Bible Commentary, p. 513)

Many people feel caught up in the routines of daily living that seem to deprive their life of significance. (Eckhart Tolle, A New Earth, p. 257)

... bad decisions always result in bad consequences. (Billy Graham, Hope For Each Day, 25 June)

Yesterday I installed the hard drive from my old Dell laptop in an external drive case that I bought at a computer store. The USB cable allowed me to connect the drive to my new laptop and thus read the drive again. I'm having fun looking at all the genealogy PDFs I found on this drive. I don't remember how many of these reports I made available in the past. If you have access to my Box.net account watch to see what I make available.
