Power

 Power

I am not powerless over myself, and the ways I act and react.
This is, in itself, a power that can work miracles in changing the attitude of others.

Negative Thinking

Negative thinking produces negative ways and weak living. It undermines our morals so that we develop a "what's the difference" attitude. But a positive faith in God, as each of us understands Him, gives strength to the body and courage to the soul.

Attitude

If my attitude at home is habitually glum and critical, I will try to change this by observing what I say and do, and how my family reacts.
(One Day At A Time In Al-Anon, 2 November)

Don't let fear of family dramas keep you from changing outmoded, unnecessary, and unwanted thought patterns.
(Dr. Wayne W. Dyer, Excuses Begone, p. 39)

... humor works to lighten the heavy seriousness of our daily living, and smooths out the rough spots in our communication with each other.
(One Day At A Time In Al-Anon, 6 December)

Sometimes the choices I make are not as important as the fact that I make them.

Attitude

We don't get to choose every situation that happens in our lives, but we always have the opportunity to choose our own attitude. Never be afraid to live life with as much enthusiasm -- and good judgment -- as possible.

Condemning Voices

Photo - National Geographic

Don't allow ... condemning voices to play repeatedly in your mind. That will only accentuate a negative attitude toward yourself. If you have a bad attitude toward you, it will hinder every area of your life.

Attitude

Most of us bring to everyday life a somewhat naive psychological attitude in our expectations that our lives and relationships will be simple.

Whiners & Complainers

Whiners and complainers are looking for allies. Don't allow yourself to be poisoned by their toxic attitude. Remind yourself that joining them in their misery will corrupt your state of mind.

Give Thanks

Thanks should be on our lips every day. When thanksgiving becomes an integral part of your life, you will find that your attitude toward life will change. You will become more positive, gracious, loving and humble.

Matter Of Attitude

Photo: Mr. Dickie

As religious writer Charles Swindoll said, "We have a choice everyday regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. Life is 10 per cent what happens to me and 90 per cent how I react to it. And so it is with you. We are in charge of our attitudes."

You can't change everything, but you can always change something for the better including your way of looking at life.

Where Are You Going?

There are basically two kinds of people in the world:

  • those who are growing personally and
  • those who are going nowhere and stagnating.
(Cloud and Townsend, God Will Make A Way, p. 33)

What is your intuition telling you right now?
(John C. Maxwell, Leadership, 17 July)

Develop an attitude of gratitude for all that manifests into your life.
Be thankful and filled with awe and appreciation, even if what you desire hasn't arrived yet.
Even the darkest days of your life are to be looked on with gratitude.

  3. Our attitude is often the only difference between success and failure.
  4. Our attitude at the beginning of a task will affect its outcome more than anything else.

Generosity

To cultivate the quality of generosity in your life, do the following:

  1. Be grateful for whatever you have.
  2. Put people first.
  3. Don't allow the desire for possessions to control you.
  4. See money as a resource.
  5. Develop the habit of giving.

The only way to maintain an attitude of generosity is to make it your habit to give:

  • your time
  • attention
  • money
  • resources.

(John C. Maxwell, Leadership, 21 January)

I'm making good progress on the project to learn how to use my new FreePages account on RootsWeb. Yesterday I modified the HTML that I use at the top and bottom of each webpage to bring it up-to-date and make it work with FreePages URLs.  The next step is to select an old file that I want to share, make the necessary modifications and upload it to my FreePages.  Stay tuned for further progress reports.

Humble Person

The humble person is tolerant of others' failings, and does not have a critical attitude toward the foibles of others.  Humble people are hard on themselves and easy on others. (Twenty-Four Hours A Day, 18 October) 6 November 2012

Attitude Check

I will look for, and appreciate, ... positive and desirable actions, and not concentrate on the negative. I must, in other words, do something constructive about my own attitude. (One Day At A Time In Al-Anon, 12 August) 24 August 2012

Put It In Writing

One way to discover the real nature of one's personal issues is to write them out in detail.  Putting our problems into words on paper, where we can look at them and correct them as our attitudes change can be most useful in helping us to see things clearly.  (after One Day At At A Time In Al-Anon, 14 April) 24 May 2012

Worry

Remember that you are deprived of nothing except by your own decisions, and then decide otherwise. (A Course In Miracles, Chapter 4, IV, 3, 3, p. 63)

Don't do your good deeds publicly, to be admired ... (Matthew 6:1 (TLB) Daily Guideposts - 2011, 28 March)

I will continue feeling bad until my attitude improves! (Iyanla Vanzant, Until Today!, 6 January)

... the things I see in others could be the very things they see in me. (Iyanla Vanzant, Until Today!, 23 March)

You can always tell when someone is saying something that you are resistant to hearing because it hits you in the pit of your stomach. (Iyanla Vanzant, Until Today!, 24 March)

Worriers think about what happened yesterday.  They are sure it's a clue to the awful things that are going to happen tomorrow. (after One Day At A Time In Al-Anon, 22 March)

Changing You Attitude

[Change] ... your speech behavior, [and] you'll be changing your attitude in the direction of accepting reality for what it is, and you will find yourself eliminating much needless upset from your life. (Dr. Wayne W. Dyer, Pulling You Own Strings, p. 202)
