Knowledge

Real wisdom is not the knowledge of everything, but the knowledge of which things in life are necessary, which are less necessary, and which are completely unnecessary to know. Among the most necessary knowledge is the knowledge of how to live well, that is, how to produce the least possible evil and the greatest goodness in one's life. At present, people study useless sciences, but forget to study this, the most important knowledge.

Conscience

Nevertheless, most of us work and live in environments that don't nurture the development of the conscience. To hear conscience clearly often requires us to be “still” or “reflective” or “meditative” ─ a condition we rarely choose or find. We’re inundated by activity, noise, social and cultural conditioning, media messages, and flawed paradigms that dull our sensitivity to that quiet inner voice that would teach us of true north principles and our own degree of congruency with them.
But if we stop and search deeply with an honest heart, we can tap into that inner wellspring of wisdom.

Health

When health is absent, wisdom cannot reveal itself, art cannot manifest, strength cannot fight, wealth becomes useless, and intelligence cannot be applied.

Be Done With It

Library of Congress Model
U.S. Botanical Gardens
December 2014

Several times a day, sit down and plan your actions for the next few hours. Ask yourself what impulse triggers may lie in your path and visualize yourself walking by them, nodding and smiling and saying, "No thank you."
(Cindy Glovinsky, Making Peace With The Things In Your Life, p. 158)

Finish every day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in; forget them as soon as you can.
(Ralph Waldo Emerson in Night Light by Amy E. Dean, 17 April)

To finish the moment, to find the journey's end in every step of the road, to live the greatest number of good hours, is wisdom.

Wisdom

People who think themselves wise are seldom humble enough to allow others to guide them.

Sit Quietly

Simply sit quietly, take a few breathes, and focus your awareness within - to the wise being within you who is in touch with the wisdom of the universe.

Becoming Wise

Melva's Quilt - Mr. Dickie

Becoming wise is an ongoing, lifelong pursuit. Don't be content just to know about wisdom, make it part of your life.

Knowledge

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Kindness

Kindness is more important than wisdom, and the recognition of this is the beginning of wisdom.

Wisdom

Cling to wisdom -- she will protect you.
Love her -- she will guard you.
Getting wisdom is the most important thing you can do!
And with your wisdom, develop common sense and good judgment.

The Alphabet

The invisible manifests itself in the visible. I think of the alphabet, of letters literally -- A, B, C, D, E, F, G, all twenty-six of them. I think of how poetry, history, the wisdom of the sages and the holiness of the saints, all of this invisible comes down to us dressed out in their visible, alphabetic garb. Don't Quote Me On This

If you do not wish a man to do a thing, you had better get him to talk about it; for the more men talk, the more likely they are to do nothing else. (Carlyle in Pulling Your Own Strings by Dr. Wayne W. Dyer, p. 129)

"We should believe only in deeds; words go for nothing everywhere." (Fernando Rojas, Spanish author, in Pulling Your Own Strings by Dr. Wayne W. Dyer, p. 122)

People who have great learning are often eager to appear wise, and they often wish others to recognize them as wise people. (Thomas 'A Kempis, The Imitation Of  Christ, p. 31)

A Word To The Wise

Do you consider yourself wise?  If you can't bear to hear a word to the wise, maybe you are not as smart as you think you are.  (Mr. Dickie after Believing In Myself by Larsen and Hegarty, 6 March)

Yesterday I spent some time getting the Windows Live Photo Gallery working on the new laptop.  I downloaded all of the photos on my camera to the Pictures library on the computer.  Now I need to compare how the Photo Gallery works to how Picasa 3.8 works.  At first glance the two applications seem to be quite similar.  With the Photo Gallery I was able to upload a couple of photos to my Facebook wall in a matter of seconds.  I hope I don't bore everyone by posting the same photos twice.  I can't rely on my memory to keep track.

I discovered a new version of the Google Blogger editor.  I installed it.  I wonder what new features will be available.  I see more editing tools on the tool bar.  The Preview option looks nice.  The photo uploads didn't work.  Bummer!

This morning I have Facebook displayed on the larger monitor and Google Blogger on the laptop monitor.

Tonight Panama and the U.S.A. will play a soccer match in the Gold Cup series.  I have a $10.00 bet with Melva.

This morning I'm listening to the Annie Lennox album - Bare.

Knowledge and Wisdom

Knowledge is proud that he has learned so much; wisdom is humble that he knows no more. (William Cowper in Chapter-By-Chapter Bible Commentary by Warren W. Wiersbe, p. 297)

Anyone who stops learning is old whether at twenty or eighty. Anyone who keeps learning stays young. The greatest thing in life is to keep your mind young. (Henry Ford in The Book Of Choices by Mike Magee, M.D., p. 236)

The proud man has a mirror in which he sees himself; the humble man has a window through which he sees others. (Warren W. Wiersbe, Chapter-By-Chapter Bible Commentary, p. 275-76)

What comes with age and wisdom is acceptance of our imperfections. (Karen Casey and Martha Vanceburg, The Promise Of A New Day, 1 April)

Yesterday I experimented with writing Cascading Style Sheet (CSS) rules for pre-formatted text. The idea was to control background color, text color, text-size, and font-family for text output by the Descend program I used for many years. I seem to be making progress. I got everything to work.

Who Are These People?

... right attitudes and thoughts must precede right practices. (John MacArthur, Truth For Today, 26 November)

Wisdom preserves our lives from human pitfalls, and provides our lives with divine perspective. (Charles R. Swindoll, Wisdom For The Way, p. 335)

Who are these people, these people we elected to govern us? If they aren't part of "We The People," just who are they and what made us think that they would represent our interests in the halls of Congress?

Running Errands

I recognize the energy that exists in all things, and acknowledge God's wisdom in His creation. (Betty J. Eadie, Embraced By The Light, 20 November)

******

We spent the afternoon out running errands for Melva. We took a long drive from our house to Odenten, then to Maryland City and finally to Glenridge near our house. We managed to accomplish everything Melva had in mind. We visited the new store Hobby Lobby in Maryland City before we stopped to eat lunch at the nearby Panera Bread.
