What You Think

What you think upon grows. Whatever you allow to occupy your mind you magnify in your own life. Whether the subject of your thought be good or bad, the law works and the condition grows. Any subject that you keep out of your mind tends to diminish in your life, because what you do not use atrophies.

On the 26th and 27th of February I worked on a project to create playlist folders for various artists on Spotify.  Many of my favorite Bluegrass artists have 14 or 15 albums on this music service.

Consolidating the albums into playlist folders on the left of the display will make it easier to quickly find something I want to play.  I learned that if I click on the playlist folder all of the albums are aggregated into one big temporary playlist for immediate play.

While working on this project I discovered that an application upgrade to Spotify eliminated the feature that allowed us to post a song to the wall of our Facebook friends.  I can still easily post a song to my own wall where all of my friends can see it.

A Monumental Task

Changing our whole way of thinking is a monumental task, not to be taken lightly.  (One Day At A Time In Al-Anon, 16 December)

Yesterday, I spent some time learning about how the Apps on Spotify work.  There were two pre-installed: Radio and 123 Top Lists.  I particularly like the Radio app.  You can have Spotify chose songs to play based on an album or an artist.  It's a good way to get exposed to lots of new songs and new artists.  I hope there aren't plans to force those using the "free" version of Spotify to convert to the Premium version.

Today Is

Yesterday is a canceled check.
Tomorrow is a promissory note.
Today is the only cash you have, so invest it wisely.

When I ripped some music from CDs I saved them in the WMA format.  Later I learned that it would have been better to have them in MP3 format.  This format seems to work well with Google Music, Spotify and other things I like to do.  I downloaded and installed a program called: Switch Sound File Converter from NCH Software.  I used this program to convert the files from WMA to MP3.

I also downloaded and installed a file manager program called Double Commander which displays two file lists at the same time.  This is very handy if you want to quickly selected and drag and drop files to copy from one folder to another.  I made good use of this program during the music file conversions.  One feature that was particularly useful was the ability to search for files with a particular file extension.  For example: when I thought I was nearing the end of the file conversion project I checked to see if there were files with the extension "*.WMA" that I'd missed.

During the last week I installed the Skype program on the laptop.  I added computer club member, Dan L., as my first contact.  I received my first call this evening when Dan noticed that I had Skype running and called.  It took a minute to get my bearings and turn off some music I had playing on the computer.  We conducted a nice video call of more than thirty minutes. At the end we hung up and I practiced calling Dan back to make sure I could initiate a call from my end.  I think we are ready to encourage some relatives in Panama to get Skype working.

Reality

I can resist reality and suffer pain or peacefully accept what I cannot change.  (In God's Care, 11 October)

Quite a few of the music files I have on my computer are in the WMA format of Microsoft.  Too late I realized that this format doesn't work with: Spotify, Google Music or Box.net.  Yesterday I downloaded and installed a free program called Switch that will convert WMA files to MP3 files.  I used the program to modify the songs in three albums.

Melva and I decided to have two of her three sewing machines fixed.  Both are Singers.  One needed a routine tune up.  The other had two broken gears.  I bought this machine for Melva around the time we got married.  We had the broken gears replaced with gears whose designed has been modified.  The technician stated that the new design seems to have eliminated the frequent problems with the original design.  Now she has so many sewing machines she won't know which one to use.

Grandiose Claims

People will make grandiose claims and promises and will deceive many.  (Warren W. Wiersbe, Chapter-By-Chapter Bible Commentary, p. 650)

Yesterday I enrolled in Google+ at the request of a former co-worker.  I got some things to work.  Others will require more reading and testing.  I did manage to create a photo album and some circles.  There were only four friends already signed up.

I created a Channel on YouTube and created a playlist.  I don't really understand the purpose of a Channel.  The songs I posted to the playlist played.

It's fun trying out all of the apps.  Of course everything takes more time than anticipated.

I discovered a new singer, Prisilla Ahn.  She's very good looking and has a very nice voice.  I searched to see if I could find her on Spotify.  I found her album - A Good Day, with eleven tracks.  I'm listening this morning while posting to my two blogs.
