Letting Go

Don't use bad language.  Say only what is good and helpful to those you are talking to, and what will give them a blessing. (Ephesians 4:29 (TLB) in Daily Guideposts - 2010, 19 February)

[Being] ... in a state of self-referral ... means not to look at yourself through the eyes of the world, or allow yourself to be influenced by the opinions and criticism of others. A helpful way to maintain that state of self-referral is to keep your desires to yourself; do not share them with anyone else unless they share the exact same desires that you have and are closely bonded to you. (Deepak Chopra, The Seven Spiritual Laws Of Success, p. 77-8)

Let me not expect easy solutions to my problems.  Make me realize that many of my difficulties were created by me, by my own reactions to the happenings in my daily life. I ask only to be guided to a better way. (One Day At A Time In Al-Anon, 6 January)

Release all grievances you are holding against others. (Iyanla Vanzant, Until Today!, 19 February)

If you just relinquish the need to defend your point of view, you will in that relinquishment, gain access to enormous amounts of energy that have been previously wasted. (Deepak Chopra, The Seven Spiritual Laws Of Success, p. 60)

Complaints and Grievances

[Politely and tactfully let others] know that ... [you are] not going to be seduced into a discussion of their complaints and grievances.  (after Wayne W. Dyer, Wisdom Of The Ages, p. 221)

Grievances

Remove yourself physically as subtly as you can from those who persistently insist on burdening you with their grievances.  (Dr. Wayne W. Dyer, Wisdom Of The Ages, p. 222) 6 December 2011

Meditation

Meditation is the quiet and sustained application of the mind to the contemplation of a "spiritual truth."  Its purpose is to "deflect" our minds from the problems we are experiencing, to raise our thoughts about the grievances and disconent that color our thinking. It's A Waste Of Life

Allowing, or even forcing, ourselves to be positive thinkers ensures we will not become mired in the swamp of negativism. (Eric V. Copage, Black Pearls, 19 June)

Very little that happens in my daily encounters is worth my worry, resentment, or feeling sorry for myself. If I am always ready to take offense and be hurt, I'm selling my contentment very cheaply. (One Day At A Time In Al-Anon, 28 June)

Storing up grievances is more than a waste of time; it's a waste of life that could be lived to greater satisfaction.

We reduce prejudice best by fostering a climate in which it is socially unacceptable to express prejudiced feelings about another group. (Harold Kushner, To Life!, p. 272)

Grievance

Extremely thin-skinned people are good at using the most trifling incidents to create a grievance. (Larsen & Hegarty, Believing In Myself, 17 July) 23 July 2011

How It Is

"Well, right now, this is how it is. I can either accept it, or make myself miserable." The primary cause of unhappiness is never the situation but your thoughts about it. (Eckhart Tolle, A New Earth, p. 96)

There are many people who are always waiting for the next thing to react against, to feel annoyed or disturbed about - and it never takes long before they find it. (Eckhart Tolle, A New Earth, p. 65)

... a grievance [is] the baggage of old thought and emotion.
(Eckhart Tolle, A New Earth, p. 66)

When you complain, by implication you are right and the person or situation you complain about or react against is wrong. There is nothing that strengthens the ego more than being right. (Eckhart Tolle, A New Earth, p. 67)
