Conversation

A conversation requires two parts: talking and listening.
When only [one person is] talking, that is a monologue.

What Are You Saying?

Have you noticed how often when your are talking to someone they aren't listening? How do you react?
  • Do you just drop what you are saying?
  • Do you call it to their attention?
  • Do you just walk off?
Who has the problem here? Are you talking too much or are they listening too little?

This & That

I will not yield to my compulsion to go on talking after I have made my point ... (One Day At A Time In Al-Anon, 18 December)

It is not men's acts which disturb us - but our reaction to them. Take these away and anger goes. No wrong act of another can bring shame on you. (Marcus Aurelius in One Day At A Time In Al-Anon, 15 November)

Needless arguments are a colossal waste of time and energy. (Doreen Virtue, Ph.D., I'd Change My Life If I Had More Time, p. 164)

What appears to be trivial and insignificant may make a person feel that life is worth living. (Thomas Moore, Dark Nights Of The Soul, p. 31)

Let me not expect easy solutions to my problems. Make me realize that many of my difficulties were created by me, by my own reactions to the happenings in my daily life. I ask only to be guided to a better way. (One Day At A Time In Al-Anon, 6 January)

This And That

... if my recollection serves me, I seem to remember that you have been talking about doing this or that for quite some time now. (Iyanla Vanzant, Until Today! 6 August) 27 August 2012

Don't simply make the best of it, make the most of it.
(after Warren W. Wiersbe, Chapter-By-Chapter Bible Commentary, p. 764)

Chronic suspiciousness is a character flaw, not a compliment.  (Larsen and Hegarty, Believing In Myself, 16 December)

I continue to work on a project to create a YouTube channel for MrDickie1939.  I've made good progress.  I have it working with a Featured page which includes five Favorite videos.  There's a link to the Channel in the sidebar of this blog.

Talking Or Fixing?

Talking about a problem is not the same as fixing it.
(after Eric V. Copage, Black Pearls, 9 July)

Mr. Dickie's Comment:
There is no evidence that the members of Congress have any appreciation of this statement.
