Listen Carefully

Accustom yourself to listen carefully to another man's words, and as much as possible be in the speaker's mind.

Meditate

When not focusing on anything in particular, the mind skitters around mindlessly among whatever thoughts happen to present themselves.  To think is to direct the mind in a more or less systematic way along a specific sequence of thoughts toward a specific end. To meditate is to open the mind to a single thought until it fills the mind so completely that there is no room left for anything else.

Learning To Live

When my thoughts are centered on learning to live, I will be less tempted to involve my mind with thoughts of how others live. (One Day At A Time In Al-Anon, 2 August)

Mind, Body, Spirit

There are a few [medical practitioners] who are beginning to look seriously at the prospects of behavioral medicine and methods for teaching people to think, feel, and behave in healthy ways, from the very beginning of their lives. (Dr. Wayne W. Dyer, The Sky's The Limit, p. 27) 11 January 2013

I Can See Clearly

Start somewhere to unhook your mind from confusions, but don't do anything about your problems until you can see them clearly. (One Day At A Time In Al-Anon, 21 December) 28 December 2012

I Insist

If you are serious about creating a change in your mind, here are a few tips.

  • Do not insist that people be who you want them to be.
  • Do not insist that you are someone you are not.
  • Do not insist that you can do things you cannot do.
  • Do not insist that you know things that you don't.
  • Do not insist that you will do things you won't do.
  • Do not insist that everyone is wrong about you.
  • Do not insist that you are right.

Whenever you are insistent about something, you create an attachment.
Breaking that attachment creates disruption in the mind.
(Iyanla Vanzant, Until Today! 15 March)

BTW, the book, Change Your Mind and Your Life Will Follow by Karen Casey is a good read.
