Your Goal
Your goal is to develop habits that serve you and enhance your opportunity to maximize your success, happiness, and health ...

There's Work To Be Done
There is a great deal to be done. At present, overproduction and over-consumption of nonessential Things, especially in the West, is leading to the destruction of the world's resources and habitats. Meanwhile, both between and within cultures, enormous material inequalities exist, resulting in conflicts in [and between] many countries. If we are to begin to change the Thing habits that have created these problems, we must first change our attitudes about Things, especially about the ownership of excess Things.

Crisis
Crises can be averted by making some changes. Change is seldom easy, especially when we deal with deep-rooted habits, long-standing associations, and entrenched attitudes. Drastic situations demand decisive action. Whatever causes you to stumble, tear it out or cut it off! (Les Dahl in The Upper Room Disciplines - 2003, 27 September) 12 February 2013

Jump Up & Down
[Get up, get on your feet, jump up and down.] While you are jumping shake off bad habits, bad feelings, bad attitudes, and don't forget [to include] people who may have a bad influence. (Iyanla Vanzant, Until Today! 11 November) 19 November 2012

On Sunday night, 18 November 2012 I watched the first two-hour episode of the Ken Burns PBS program - The Dust Bowl. The rest of the program will be shown in another two-hour segment on Monday night. I thought the program was excellent, shocking and very moving. I always enjoy anything that Peter Coyote narrates. During the years of the Dust Bowl my parents were in their thirties and living in central and eastern Nebraska. My maternal grandfather, John Carlson, was the owner of a hardware store in the little town of Mead in Saunders county. During the Great Depression he suffered business losses from which he never recovered and which impacted all of us.

Discarding Things
There is in life an essential duty of discarding things. There may be habits, pleasures, self-indulgences, associations which hold us back. We must shed them as an athlete sheds his track suit when he goes to the starting mark, and often we will need the help of God to enable us to do so. (William Barclay, The Letter To The Hebrews, p. 172-73)

Crisis
In every crisis there is a message. Crises are nature's way of forcing change - breaking down old structures, shaking loose negative habits so that something new and better can take their place. (Susan Taylor in Black Pearls by Eric V. Copage, 22 November) 29 November 2011

Daily Effort

Daily effort is required to stay on course, but a whole new world awaits at the end, if we persist. (Betty J. Eadie, Embraced By The Light, 18 May)
You leave old habits behind by starting out with the thought "I release the need for this in my life." (Dr. Wayne Dyer, Staying On The Path, p. 68)

Yesterday afternoon we had a severe weather warning. I didn't do anything about it and left everything plugged in. I was sitting in the kitchen when the one and only huge lightning bolt struck. I just about fell off of the barstool. I went to unplug the computer and printer. By then the storm had passed. We got lucky, there didn't seem to be any damage.
