Involvement

Involvement

We cannot drop out of human involvement without endangering our spiritual health.

Pattern of Our Lives

The cooling of a relationship, the dark clouds of unemployment, the diminishment of health. All speak of that which we do not welcome; and yet, like winter, they are an inescapable part of the pattern of our lives.

Health

When health is absent, wisdom cannot reveal itself, art cannot manifest, strength cannot fight, wealth becomes useless, and intelligence cannot be applied.

Angry Words

Angry words are dangerous to your emotional and spiritual health, not to mention your relationships. So treat anger as an uninvited guest, and usher it away as quickly, and gently -- as possible.

Mind, Body, Spirit

There are a few [medical practitioners] who are beginning to look seriously at the prospects of behavioral medicine and methods for teaching people to think, feel, and behave in healthy ways, from the very beginning of their lives. (Dr. Wayne W. Dyer, The Sky's The Limit, p. 27) 11 January 2013

Serif

Yesterday I installed the Serif program, WebPlus X5 on my computer.  I purchased the prior version at a discount from Serif.  This is a WYSIWYG HTML editor used to create and maintain web pages.

RootsWeb/FreePages

I received notification from RootsWeb that my request for FreePages web space has been approved.  My goal is to learn how to use this hosted genealogy space to post some of my genealogy data that was available on AOL prior to the fall of 2008.

Goals

My goals for 2013 are ambitious and the learning curve may be steep.
  1. Master the use of the following programs:
    2.  Create a website in the RootsWeb FreePages space.

Peak Experience

A peak experience is more of an indication of what can be than a stable state of being. (Larsen and Hegarty, Believing In Myself, 6 November) 18 November 2011

Yesterday morning, Cyndi and I attended the NARFE Health Benefit meeting at the Old Bowie City Hall.  We spent quite a bit of time talking to the GEHA representative.  We are both concerned about whether I need to make changes in the health coverage for Melva and myself.

After the meeting Cyndi dropped me off at the Senior Center where I attended the meeting of the computer club.  Member, Bob Davis, gave the talk on three interesting subjects: making your own two-sided, colored, business cards, wireless earphones for TV viewing, and 3-D television.  I thought he did a great job.

In the evening I used Skype to have a video chat with computer club member and Facebook buddy, Dan L.   Cyndi was on the other computer at the same time having a video chat with her friend in Germany. That was fun.

Mind Over Matter

There is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so. (William Shakespeare in A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle, p. 111)

Isn't it odd that no one ever taught us about mental hygiene? But good mental and emotional health habits were never mentioned, let alone explained. (Larsen and Hegarty, Believing In Myself, 13 March)

How much simpler it makes living through even our most feared experiences when we have acquired the wisdom to know that the mind we carry into the moment, any moment, will be reflected in the outcome. (The Promise Of A New Day, 10 March)

It's not at all unusual for grown men and women still to be operating on the same emotional level as they did when they were twelve. (Larsen and Hegarty, Believing In Myself, 25 March)

Being angry, being neurotic, having a less-than-perfect childhood do not excuse you from the obligations of the mentally competent. (Harold Kushner, To Life!, p. 187)

"This is my secret, I don't mind what happens." (J. Krishnamurti, the great Indian philosopher and spiritual leader in A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle, p. 198)

"It's a question of mind over matter. If you don't mind, it doesn't matter." (Mr. Dickie)

Death of Osama bin Laden

Unhappiness is an ego-created mental-emotional disease that has reached epidemic proportions. (Eckhart Tolle, A New Earth, p. 110)

... complaining about our oppressions and indignities only makes them loom larger and more disturbing. (One Day At A Time in Al-Anon, 15 March)

For the sake of our mental and spiritual health, we must realize that any emotion that is buried within us is never buried dead - but buried alive. (Selwyn Hughes, Every Day Light, Day 64)

Since we can control and direct our expectations why should we set ourselves up for disappointment? (after The Promise of a New Day, 14 March)

To face oneself is the most humiliating thing in the world. (William Barclay, The Letters to the Galatians and Ephesians, p. 135)

*****

Today, almost ten years after the terrorist attacks carried out against the United States by the henchmen of Osama bin Laden, the President announced that he was located in a fancy compound in Pakistan and killed by US Navy Seals. Congratulations and thanks to all of the people who worked to bring an end to this evil man.

Mental and Emotional Health

Five simple prescriptions for the maintenance of mental and emotional health:
  • Assert yourself: No one can respond to what you don't say.
  • Be teachable: The ignorance you won't admit will catch up with you.
  • Find confidants: Friends double your joys and divide your sorrows.
  • Contribute something: Takers end up empty-handed.
  • Live today: Anyone can be strong for twenty-four hours.
