Perseverance

It is in the daily striving that perseverance counts. (Twenty-Four Hours A Day, 16 January)

Who has a more fierce struggle than the person who strives to master himself?  And this must be our occupation: to strive to master ourselves and daily to grow stronger and to advance from good to better. (Thomas 'A Kempis, The Imitation Of Christ, Book 1, Chapter 3, p. 33)

If you are interested in reducing certain behaviors, daily recording of these behaviors could decrease their occurrence. (after Ratey and Johnson, Shadow Syndromes, p. 334-5)

Existence Of Mankind

"Some day science may have the existence of mankind in it's power, and the human race [may] commit suicide by blowing up the world."  (Henry Adams in The Promise Of A New Day, Casey and Vanceburg, 18 October)

I regret that I converted some of my music files to the WMA format rather than the MP3 format.  The MP3 format works nicely with Spotify, Google Music and Box.net.  I found and installed a program that converts from WMA to MP3.  It converted several files without any problem.

I needed to convert a Powerpoint slide show to a PDF file.  My first attempt using Google Docs didn't work properly.  On some slides the footer text moved up into the text of the slides.  Last night I found an online conversion program which accomplished the task.  Today I'll upload the slide show to the computer club website.

If you are interested in recording the streaming audio from some Internet radio stations take a look at StreamWriter.  There are over five thousand stations in the list the program can access.  It's possible to record from more than one station at a time.

StreamWriter

Put yourself through a self-improvement project that is designed to maximize your state of mind, body, and spirit.  Write your own personal curriculum and apply it each day.  (Dr. Wayne W. Dyer, Wisdom Of The Ages, p. 165)

I've been listening to several Internet radio stations and recording some of the music.  I'm using the program, StreamWriter.

Audacity

... bad decisions always result in bad consequences. (Billy Graham, Hope For Each Day, 25 June)

******

Last night I achieved my first result recording twenty minutes of music from a cassette tape using the program Audacity. The program has lots of controls, so there is lots to learn. I saved the recording in the Audacity format and the WAV format. I didn't record the second side of the tape and I didn't attempt to break each track out into a separate file. Copying music in this manner is a very time consuming process.

This Experience

What is in this experience that I can use in a beneficial way, even if I don't understand why it is happening right now? (Dr. Wayne Dyer, Real Magic, p. 7)

As of 8:30 a.m. this morning there isn't much movement outside our front window. There seems to be one lane plowed in the street but no cars are coming up the hill. So far I've seen only one person walk by with a shovel. It's too early to try to hire someone to clean up this mess. Besides clearing the driveway, the sidewalk, the porch and the cars we need to get all of that snow out of the outside basement stairwell. Finding someplace to throw the snow is going to be a big problem. There's lots of money to be made.

I got my little hand-held Memorex tape recording working yesterday. I had to recharge two AA batteries before they worked. I'm planning to use the recorder as external memory when I'm working on some of my genealogy projects. Sometimes while working on one task I discover something else that needs to be done. I intend to make an audio note that I can review later.
