[Harry S Truman]
In his postpresidential notes, Harry Truman was candid about the tricky nature of democracy. Yes, much of the nation's fate lies in the hands of the president, but the voters have the ultimate Authority. “The country has to awaken every now and then to the fact that the people are responsible for the government they get,” Truman wrote. “And when they elect a man to the presidency who doesn't take care of the job, they've got nobody to blame but themselves.”

74th Birthday
I found that the men and women who got to the top were those who did the jobs they had in hand, with everything they had of energy, enthusiasm, and hard work. (Harry S. Truman in The Little Book Of Virtues, 7 May)
******
It's my 74th birthday.
Thanks to everyone who sent birthday messages.
Thanks to everyone who helped me along the way.
There have been many times in recent years
when
I doubted this day
would arrive.

Just Tell The Truth
I don't give them hell. I just tell the truth and they think it is hell. (Harry S. Truman in The Book Of Choices by Mike Magee, MD, p. 71)

The snow yesterday didn't amount to much. Melva and I drove in it when we went out to eat lunch at Bob Evans in Bowie.
In the afternoon Melva watched the tennis match while I went to CD Depot. They sell both new and used CDs. My goal was to see if I could find some reasonable CDs to give as gifts. I hadn't been to the store in a long time. As a matter of fact I wasn't certain they were still in business. I'd only been in the store for a couple of minutes when I discovered a rack to $1.99 CDs on the left wall. I went crazy buying CDs for myself, for Melva and to use as gifts. I also stopped at the Bluegrass section and selected two more expensive albums for myself.

Democracy
Democracy is based on the conviction that man has the moral and intellectual capacity, as well as the inalienable right, to govern himself with reason and justice. (Harry S. Truman) 21/Sep/2010 18:08
