Voting Rights

There is continued evidence that people's right to vote is under attack or being denied.

Here's what Senator Edward Kennedy had to say about voting. (In my case the women denied the right to vote were my grandmothers and my mother and her sisters.)
Our great-grandmothers marched, were arrested, and suffered heroically in jail to obtain the vote for women. People walked the dusty back roads of the South, and sometimes died, to ensure African-Americans the right to vote. We should be humbled by that. We have progressed to where we are because we stand on all their shoulders, and we must never forget it. Voting says thank you.
(Edward Kennedy, U.S. Senator in Words That Matter by the Editors of The Oprah Magazine, p. 61)

Human History

It is from numberless diverse acts of
courage and belief
that human history is shaped.
Each time a man stands up for an ideal,
or acts to improve the lot of others,
or strikes out against injustice,
he sends forth a tiny ripple of hope.
(Robert F. Kennedy, in The Little Book Of Virtues, June 14)

Our Privileges

Our privileges can be no greater than our obligations. The protection of our rights can endure no longer than the performance of our responsibilities. (John F. Kennedy in The Little Book Of Virtues) 15/Mar/2011 8:19

The Needs of the People

The role of the collective or community of people is determined by the needs of the people. (Mike Magee, M.D., The Book Of Choices, p. 148)

We must work for the betterment of ourselves and other people. (Twenty-Four Hours A Day, 29 December)

New opinions are always suspected, and usually opposed, without any other reasons but because they are not already common. (John Locke in The Book Of Choices by Mike Magee, M.D., p. 75)

Malice poisons us to the point that our ears hear nothing good and our eyes see nothing good, no matter what ... [a] person may say and do. (Warren W. Wiersbe, Chapter-By-Chapter Bible Commentary, p. 233)

I am not so much concerned with the right of everyone to say anything he pleases as I am about our need as a self-governing people to hear everything relevant. (John F. Kennedy in The Book of Choices by Mike Magee, M.D., p. 98)

Elders have a long history, and they ... [have] a place in the life of almost every community. (William Barclay, The Letters to Timothy, Titus and Philemon, p. 81)

Survival and Success of Liberty

Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe to assure the survival and the success of liberty. (John F. Kennedy, in The Book of Choices by Mike Magee, M.D., p. 109) 15/Feb/2011 8:13

Green Bay

What is dangerous about extremists is not that they are extreme, but that they are intolerant. The evil is not what they say about their cause, but what they say about their opponents. (Robert F. Kennedy, in The Book of Choices by Mike Magee, M.D., p. 98)

I'm going to take my Green Bay jacket out of the closet and wear it for a few days. Congratulations Green Bay Packers!

Relevant Listening

I am not so much concerned with the right of everyone to say anything he pleases as I am about our need as a self-governing people to hear everything relevant. (John F. Kennedy, in The Book of Choices by Mike Magee, M.D., p. 98)

Yesterday I worked on a snail mail letter I'm planning to send to a friend who doesn't have a computer. The letter will accompany some Conger genealogy I printed out to share with him.

I also worked on adding some Manning information to my Conger / FitzRandolph data.
