We The People

[We have fallen into] ... a lazy habit: the unexamined notion that decisions made in Washington reflect the will of the American people and the public's underlying values.  The public has its main say on one day every two years: election day.  The choice is between two political parties that cynically ignore their constituencies the very next day in order to carry out policies aimed at the rich and powerful rather than the voters.  (Jeffrey D. Sachs, The Price Of Civilization, p. 106)  1 February 2012

The Needs of the People

The role of the collective or community of people is determined by the needs of the people. (Mike Magee, M.D., The Book Of Choices, p. 148)

We must work for the betterment of ourselves and other people. (Twenty-Four Hours A Day, 29 December)

New opinions are always suspected, and usually opposed, without any other reasons but because they are not already common. (John Locke in The Book Of Choices by Mike Magee, M.D., p. 75)

Malice poisons us to the point that our ears hear nothing good and our eyes see nothing good, no matter what ... [a] person may say and do. (Warren W. Wiersbe, Chapter-By-Chapter Bible Commentary, p. 233)

I am not so much concerned with the right of everyone to say anything he pleases as I am about our need as a self-governing people to hear everything relevant. (John F. Kennedy in The Book of Choices by Mike Magee, M.D., p. 98)

Elders have a long history, and they ... [have] a place in the life of almost every community. (William Barclay, The Letters to Timothy, Titus and Philemon, p. 81)

Who Are These People?

... right attitudes and thoughts must precede right practices. (John MacArthur, Truth For Today, 26 November)

Wisdom preserves our lives from human pitfalls, and provides our lives with divine perspective. (Charles R. Swindoll, Wisdom For The Way, p. 335)

Who are these people, these people we elected to govern us? If they aren't part of "We The People," just who are they and what made us think that they would represent our interests in the halls of Congress?
