Live Your Life

Live Your Life

Live your life while you have it.
Life is a splendid gift - there is nothing small about it.

Winter

Our neighbor Jim's house in winter past.

The coming of winter lies in far more powerful hands than ours. We can do nothing to hasten or prevent it. All we can change is our attitude toward it. And since the divine mystery is the source of all, we can safely trust that, despite its potential to inconvenience us, winter is a gift that is good.

Memory

Yours Truly

If you have been given the gift of a good, clear memory, how do you use it?

It isn't likely that God conferred this gift on you for the purpose of dredging up old wrongs, injured feelings, futile regrets and personal sufferings. That would clearly be a misuse of His gift, when everyone has so many pleasant and satisfying things to remember.

Whatever Happens

Whatever may happen today, I will think of it as a challenge which I am well able to meet.  If it is good, I will receive it gratefully as a special gift.  If it is not good, I will deal with it as well as I can, knowing it will pass if I do not let it overwhelm me. I will not let the good make me complacent, nor will I allow the not-good to drown me in despair.

The Gift

You have a unique gift to offer this world and you are unique in the entire history of creation.

Today Is A Gift

Today is a gift.
Today I will let myself plan for the future and live in the moment.
I only have to live this day.
Nothing more is asked of me.

Yesterday

How we ... [feel] about whatever happened in a multitude of yesterday's doesn't have to consume our attention today. (Karen Casey, Keepers Of The Wisdom, 9 June) 13 July 2012

After A Certain Age

[After a certain age] Other than our own deaths, there is little we haven't experienced by now.

  • We've known the turmoil of adolescence.
  • We've felt the pride that accompanies career advancement and the disappointment over a missed promotion.
  • Worry over the safety of our children and our parents is familiar.
  • We've missed opportunities that would have changed our destiny and reaped rewards we hadn't expected.
  • Life has been full;

Our gift has been to grow confident and wise.

The Gift Of Experience

Sometimes it would seem that the only gift which experience gives to some people is the gift of pouring cold water on the schemes and plans and dreams of others; and that all they have learned from experience is the vast number of things which are impossible. It is a Christian duty ever to use experience to guide and to encourage, and not to daunton and to discourage. (William Barclay, The Letter To Titus, p. 285)
