Last night I watched the last three quarters of the semifinal NCAA, Division II, college football game from Carney Smith Stadium at Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, Kansas.  The Gorilla's opponent was Delta State from Mississippi.  I watched the game on ESPN3 using my laptop computer.  I don't remember when I last watched a football game of my alma mater.  I know it has been fifty years since I attended a game at the stadium.  

Pittsburg State University has a long history of fielding excellent football teams going all the way back to 1957, my freshman year.  The school won the NAIA National Championship in 1957 and 1961.  They won the NCAA Division II National Championship in 1991.

Last night they won the semifinal game, 49-23, after playing an impressive second quarter.  They now move on to the NCAA Division II National Championship against Wayne State next Saturday, the 17th of December at 11:00 a.m. in Florence, AL.  The game will be carried on cable on ESPN2.

Yesterday I participated in two nice phone conversations with college classmate, Jim Rowe. I made the first call and he made the second call to me later in the evening. After the second call I sent a message to our classmates on my Facebook PittState mailing list, informing them of the death of LTC Terry Lloyd Crawford. Jim and Terry went to public school together in Pittsburg, KS. In college they were fraternity brothers in TKE. Terry served twenty years in the U.S. Army and then had a second sixteen year career at U.S. Postal Service headquarters in Washington, DC. Burial will take place on Friday, February 18th at Quantico National Cemetery near Quantico, VA. May he rest in peace.

The 69th Anniversary of Pearl Harbor Day, 7 Dec 1941. If you are interested in reading a book about this event I recommend, "At Dawn We Slept." Donald M. Goldstein and Katherine V. Dillon compiled the book from the manuscripts of Gordon W. Prange. All were associated with the University of Maryland at College Park, MD.

The Army ROTC department at my alma mater, Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, Kansas is conducting a fund raising campaign to raise funds to build a new rappelling tower. I received a commission as a second lieutenant from this program. I wasn't exposed to rappelling until Ranger training at Fort Benning, GA.

Today we are experiencing a second day of very cold wind that is making the flags stand straight out. There is no sign of snow yet, but it's only a matter of time. Our planning is off, Melva's car needs gas. I'm ready for the task. I got my gloves, scarf and knit cap out of the dresser drawer. We also have a supply of new snow shovels to replace one that was stolen last year. I talked to two men from Riverdale who said they will come to do snow removal when the time comes.
