Letters

Letters

... letters offer an unusually fertile means for revealing one's deepest thoughts and feelings, articulating them with a degree of style and precision that conversation may not be able to achieve.

Negative Feelings

Today I am aware that all my negative feelings
have been taped [recorded] in my memory from people and events from the past.
They no longer serve a purpose in my today.
I am willing to let them go.
I am willing to be free today to live in today.
I am willing to experience what today has to offer without being colored by yesterday's feeling.

Acting "As If"

Sometimes you might have to "act as if" to push beyond feelings, to get to the other side of them where you really want to be. There are times when it is not appropriate to act out how you really feel. You might have to save those feelings and deal with them later in a more healthy and appropriate way.

Once Upon A Time

I can begin my record of growth and goals, and dreams, and all my feelings. I can be the author of the book of my life.

Feelings

Photo by somebody with patience and good timing.

No matter what the circumstances of the day, all the feelings I have are mine.
Today I can let go of the ones I don't want and hang onto those that feel good.

Choices

We create our own feelings by the thoughts we choose to think. We have the ability to make different choices and create different experiences.

Negative Thoughts

To change negative thoughts ... we have to recognize them and experience any feelings associated with them. And then we need to change our thoughts. We need to replace our old beliefs with new affirmations ...

Change

My friend, do not trust the way you feel at the moment, for your feelings will soon change. All your life you are subject to change, even if you do not want to be. Sometimes you are happy, sometimes you are sad, sometimes you are calm, sometimes restless, now full of devotion, now not, now studious, now lazy, now solemn, now lighthearted.  The person who is wise and well instructed in spiritual things is above these changes, not paying attention to his own feelings or which way the wind blows. Instead, he directs his full attention toward reaching his desired goal.

May Day - 2014

Many of us have painful memories we carry with us like pictures in a wallet. We keep these memories alive through feelings generated by these moments. Why are we so attached to unpleasant memories?

Good Communicators

Good communicators are aware of their feelings and able to express them. How we feel is at least as important as what we think. Knowing our own feelings and being able to tell our loved ones about them can be extremely helpful.
(Harry & Emily Griffith, This Love We Share, 20 June)

Focus is important. Focus on those parts of yourself that are working. Look at yourself as someone ... [who] is in the process of healing. Concentrate of the positive parts.

Negative Thoughts

... Start to notice how many negative thoughts you have about things, situations, people, (including yourself), and how you feel at the end of the day. (Barbara De Angelis, Ph. D. in An Invitation To God, quoted in For The Love Of God by Shield & Carlson, p. 66) 30 May 2013

Jump Up & Down

[Get up, get on your feet, jump up and down.] While you are jumping shake off bad habits, bad feelings, bad attitudes, and don't forget [to include] people who may have a bad influence. (Iyanla Vanzant, Until Today! 11 November) 19 November 2012

******

On Sunday night, 18 November 2012 I watched the first two-hour episode of the Ken Burns PBS program - The Dust Bowl.  The rest of the program will be shown in another two-hour segment on Monday night.  I thought the program was excellent, shocking and very moving. I always enjoy anything that Peter Coyote narrates.  During the years of the Dust Bowl my parents were in their thirties and living in central and eastern Nebraska.  My maternal grandfather, John Carlson, was the owner of a hardware store in the little town of Mead in Saunders county.  During the Great Depression he suffered business losses from which he never recovered and which impacted all of us.
