Who We Are

All people like us are "we," and everyone else is 'they."
(Rudyard Kipling in Believing in Myself, by Larsen and Hegarty, 18 May)

Yesterday I managed to access both websites that I help maintain. I'm installing FireFTP to work with Firefox. There's more to getting set up than I thought. I discovered that I didn't have the password information written on a 3x5 card. I had to ask a friend for help with one password. Next step is to point FireFTP to the folders I plan to use to store the webpages on my computer. I'm looking forward to the time when I will be able to do all of the website maintenance from the new computer and the the two monitors. I'm trying to remember to just take one day at a time.

Anger-Sickness

The symptom of the anger-sickness is an uncontrollable impulse to judge and condemn someone else. ... Am I not ill when I allow anger to destroy my poise and peace of mind? When I lose control, am I not handing over control to the one I am treating like an adversary? (One Day At A Time In Al-Anon, 9 March)

The nature of our attitude toward circumstantial things determines our acceptance of the problems that life brings. (Helen Steiner Rice, From The Heart, 11 February)

Melva and I worked in the yard until dark last night. We continued the project to trim the dead growth from the plants and bag the debris. Just before dark we put all of the bags and the remaining limbs from the neighbors tree that fell in the wind out for pickup. They took everything today in the regular Friday trash collection. We are almost ready for Spring. We still have to bag more debris that we gathered in the backyard.

One of the computer club members loaned me a flat screen monitor. I'm going to hook it up to see if this is easy to do and to determine whether it would improve the color enough to make it worthwhile to go buy a monitor.

I'm still working on my project to create my own channel listing for our Verzion FIOS service. I think I added the last channel this morning. I'm ready to print it out. I recorded three pieces of information: 1) channel name, 2) type of programming, 3) four digit channel number. I can sort on any of the three fields.

I didn't know that the Mozilla Firefox browser used to be Netscape. There was a good program on television last night about the history of Netscape. It's a good story if you are interested in MicroSoft and AOL history.

Melva went to quilting class today. They got together yesterday at the teacher's house to celebrate St. Patrick's Day.

Five Hundredth Posting

Photo: Aztech New Media

Just for today, I will try to live through this day only, and not tackle all my problems at once. (From Just For Today found in Courage to Change, 27 September)

...we can get unlimited benefits from changing our way of thinking. No realistic, reasonable person would consider this an easy task; indeed, there is nothing more difficult in life! (One Day at a Time in Al-Anon, 24 September)

A fanatic is one who can't change his mind and won't change the subject. (Winston Churchill in One More Day by Sefra Kobrin Pitzele, 15 September)

Yesterday I made the 500th posting to Mr. Dickie's Blog.

Yesterday I attended the computer club meeting in Bowie, MD. All of the officers, except the Vice President/Program Chairman, agreed to run again. Dan, the outgoing Program Chairman, will be sorely missed. He has done a great job finding speakers. Thank you Dan for the work you did for the rest of us. Several of the club members discussed what appeared to be rather serious issues with their computers. Everyone is struggling constantly to keep their machines running. In my opinion, it's no fun.

In the evening I added a "gadget" to my Arrow Prayers blog that will display "Words of Jesus Christ." I'm not sure I like how it works because there are some ads at the bottom of the scrolling window. It will be fun to see how it works and to see if anyone comments about the ads.

I'm enjoying being able to post to my Google blogs and to Delicious from the Firefox browser. I think in time I will wean myself away from AOL and it's version of Internet Explorer.

BookCrossing - The World's Biggest Free Book Club - Catch and Release Used Books

BookCrossing - The World's Biggest Free Book Club - Catch and Release Used Books

This is a link to the BookCrossing a site with ideas about how to share your old books.

I have this site bookmarked in my Delicious bookmarks. Today I installed the Delicious add-on in Firefox. This is neat. Now if I want to "feature" a website from Delicious in one of my blogs I can use BlogThis! to post the link.

Still Learning

Every human being is a problem in search of a solution. (Ashley Montagu in Acts of Faith by Iyanla Vanzant, 20 August)

I won't laugh in someone's face, for that would be mean-spirited and inappropriate, and it is never in my best interest or the good of mankind to make fun of another person's inadequacies. (Suzanne Somers, 365 Ways to Change Your Life, Day 284)

Observing our children is like reading a fascinating and often amazing book. (One Day at a Time in Al-Anon, 1 September)

I realize that when I care what other people think relative to me, I am owned by them. (Suzanne Somers, 365 Ways to Change Your Life, Day 276)

Yesterday we spent several hours doing yard work. Melva started by herself. After about an hour I started feeling guilty and went out to help. She is removing stones that we'd placed around two flower beds in the front yard. We managed to move all of them to the backyard before we'd had enough physical activity..

Something went wrong with my AOL display. The font was so small I couldn't read it. This happens from time to time. I don't know what causes it. The problem is you can't fix it while using AOL. Luckily this time I remembered that I have to start the Internet Explorer and reset the font size there.

I'm learning more about the Firefox browser. I set it to use Gmail whenever I click on a "Send Me Mail" button on someone's website. I also set the browser to use the Sumatra PDF reader rather than the Adobe Reader. I did this because the Adobe Reader loads so slowly. I also installed the Google "BlogThis!" application on the browser tab bar. This makes it very quick and easy to post the URL of any webpage I'm viewing to any of my four blogs. I wonder if there is a book about Firefox at the library. I didn't notice one when I was browsing in the stacks. I need to check the catalog.

I discovered that the City of Bowie website has an obsolete link to the Bowie Seniors Computer Club website. I sent an Email to them with them requesting an update. I don't know for sure how many links need updating.

What is BlogThis! ? - Blogger Help

This is a test to see if I properly installed the Blog This! application on Firefox. The link explains the feature. The test worked. The underlined text is a hyperlink to a Google description of the application. Click on it to see how it works.

BlogThis! allows me to quickly post a webpage link to any of my four Google blogs. It's a quick and easy way to share things I liked with folks who are reading my blogs. There's an icon on the Firefox toolbar that I click to invoke BlogThis!

I hope you'll find something of interest as a result of my using BlogThis
