Keep An Open Mind

 Keep An Open Mind

If you try to keep an open mind your will find help.
You will come to realize that there is no situation too difficult to be be bettered and no unhappiness too great to be lessened.

Money

Money often compounds unhappiness because, mistakenly, we think that spending will make us feel better ... When you're happy, you create your own financial stability by living within you means.

Unhappiness

I have discovered that all the unhappiness of men arises from one single fact, that they cannot stay quietly in their own chamber.

Wealth

One of the main reasons wealth makes people unhappy is that it gives them too much control over what they experience.  They try to translate their own fantasies into reality instead of tasting what reality itself has to offer. (Philip Slater in Touchstones, 16 October)

Sometimes it may be observed that those who have had more advantages tend to be a little patronizing of others ... (One Day At A Time In Al-Anon, 16 October)

Negativity

Unhappiness or negativity is a disease on our planet. (Eckhart Tolle, A New Earth, p. 213)

Our society allows people to be absolutely neurotic and totally out of touch with their feelings and everyone else's feelings, and yet be very respectable. (Ntozake Shange in Black Pearls by Eric V. Copage, 5 April)

A person can freely choose to become so dependent on drugs or alcohol, so bound to a certain habit that he can no longer freely choose whether to give it up or not. (Harold Kushner, To Life)

******

I've been looking forward to this day for a couple of months. For the first time in a long time I am going to attend a Bluegrass concert. Cyndi bought us two tickets for nine-hour show at Langley High School in McLean, VA. Rain and bad weather is predicted but it shouldn't make any difference since the performance will be inside.

How It Is

"Well, right now, this is how it is. I can either accept it, or make myself miserable." The primary cause of unhappiness is never the situation but your thoughts about it. (Eckhart Tolle, A New Earth, p. 96)

There are many people who are always waiting for the next thing to react against, to feel annoyed or disturbed about - and it never takes long before they find it. (Eckhart Tolle, A New Earth, p. 65)

... a grievance [is] the baggage of old thought and emotion.
(Eckhart Tolle, A New Earth, p. 66)

When you complain, by implication you are right and the person or situation you complain about or react against is wrong. There is nothing that strengthens the ego more than being right. (Eckhart Tolle, A New Earth, p. 67)
