Words That Uplift

Words That Uplift

... the more you focus on words that uplift you, the more you embody the ideas contained in those words.

Listen Carefully

Accustom yourself to listen carefully to another man's words, and as much as possible be in the speaker's mind.

Actions and Words

Words

It's not at all unusual for words to contradict the message that is given in every other way.

Words

What a privilege it is to speak words of life, to bless those we love. There are so many ways we can show our gratitude for them and for God, who made them part of our lives. One of those ways is to speak gracious words at appropriate times.

What words of blessing would God have you say ... [today]?

Words

I have always loved words. It all started with the magical stories my father read to me from big, colorful storybooks when I was a child. The words on the page seemed to contain great mysteries awaiting discovery and great knowledge awaiting learning. All a person needed was the tool, the ability to decipher words, and new worlds could be experienced. Words are instructive, powerful, and enjoyable. Honest Words

Honest words match honest intentions. A person has honest intentions when he wants his words to tell somebody what is really on his mind and his heart. (Lewis B. Smedes, A Pretty Good Person, p. 79) 24 March 2013

Words

... words not only convey something, but are something; ... words have color, depth, texture of their own, and the power to evoke vastly more than they mean; ... words can be used not merely to make things clear, make things vivid, make things interesting and whatever else, but to make things happen inside the one who reads them or hears them. Wrapping Up The Year

This is the day on which another year closes. It is a good time for a quiet, honest look at our personal progress. Has it been a good year, better than those which went before? Has the day-by-day guidance of your personal program brought you to a greater realization and acceptance of yourself, the unique individual that you are? (after One Day At A Time In Al-Anon, 31 December)

As we look back over the year just gone, it has been a good year to the extent that we have put good thoughts, good words, and good deeds into it. None of what we have thought, said, or done need be wasted. Both the good and the bad experiences can be used to our profit. In a sense, the past is not entirely gone. The result of it, for good or evil, is with us at the present moment. We can only learn by experience and none of our experience is completely wasted.  We can humbly thank God for the good things of the year. (after Twenty-Four Hours A Day, 31 December)

If you have regrets for errors or omissions, dismiss them.  The new year which lies before us will allow no time for futile regrets. Live just one day at a time, making each one better than the last, as you grow in confidence and faith. (after One Day At A Time In Al-Anon, 31 December)

Greetings to everyone who visited Mr. Dickie's Blog or saw it on my Facebook wall during 2012. It is my hope that something I posted made you think, or smile and that nothing I posted offended.

Words

A word is an expression of thoughts; thoughts are the expression of divine force. Therefore, words should correspond to our true meaning. Speech can be indifferent, but it should not be an expression of evil. (Leo Tolstoy, A Calendar Of Wisdom, 6 November) 12 December 2012

A Sudden Gem

Hope Diamond

It sometimes happens that the words of those who are unschooled, or those who are negative and confused, can bring us a sudden gem of thought that will help us. (One Day At A Time In Al-Anon, 12 November) 17 November 2012

High Road

The high road is any action taken or any word spoken with the intention of restoring peace, invoking healing or advancing love. (Iyanla Vanzant, Until Today! 12 September) 1 October 2012

Words

... do not fight words with words.
Thomas 'A Kempis,
The Imitation of Christ, Book 3,
Chapter 36, p. 128

“Words! Words! Words! I'm so sick of words!

I get words all day through;
First from him, now from you!
Is that all you blighters can do?

Don't talk of stars burning above;
If you're in love, Show me!

Tell me no dreams filled with desire.
If you're on fire, Show me!
Here we are together in the middle of the night!
Don't talk of spring! Just hold me tight!

Anyone who's ever been in love’ll tell you that
This is no time for a chat!
Haven’t your lips longed for my touch?
Don’t say how much, Show me! Show me!
Don't talk of love lasting through time.

Make me no undying vow. Show me now!
Sing me no song! Read me no rhyme!

Don't waste my time, Show me!”

Put It In Writing

One way to discover the real nature of one's personal issues is to write them out in detail.  Putting our problems into words on paper, where we can look at them and correct them as our attitudes change can be most useful in helping us to see things clearly.  (after One Day At At A Time In Al-Anon, 14 April) 24 May 2012

Don't Quote Me On This

If you do not wish a man to do a thing, you had better get him to talk about it; for the more men talk, the more likely they are to do nothing else. (Carlyle in Pulling Your Own Strings by Dr. Wayne W. Dyer, p. 129)

"We should believe only in deeds; words go for nothing everywhere." (Fernando Rojas, Spanish author, in Pulling Your Own Strings by Dr. Wayne W. Dyer, p. 122)

People who have great learning are often eager to appear wise, and they often wish others to recognize them as wise people. (Thomas 'A Kempis, The Imitation Of  Christ, p. 31)

This and That

When I "react" I put the control of my peace of mind in the hands of others.  (One Day At A Time In Al-Anon, 15 September)

Broaden your perspective.  (Helen Steiner Rice, From The Heart, 8 September)

Today, let your actions speak louder than your words.  (Helen Steiner Rice, From The Heart, 5  September)

Today, concentrate on being optimistic, not pessimistic. (Helen Steiner Rice, From The Heart, 2 July)

Is "this" the cause of "that?" (after Eckhart Tolle, A New Earth, p.281)

Reality

It is customary these days to ignore what should be done in favor of what pleases us. (Plautus in The Book Of Choices by Mike Magee, M.D., p. 111)

The human mind has a unique ability to convincingly fashion its own reality in a manner that allows a person to absolutely know what he absolutely knows not to be so. (Mike Magee, M.D., The Book Of Choices, p. 114)

There is always a danger of heresy when we fall in love with words and forget deeds for deeds are the acid test against which every argument must be tested. (William Barclay, The Letters to Timothy, p. 37)

Words travel while silence stays put. (after Mike Magee, M.D., The Book Of Choices, p. 100)

... if we are not willing to admit to a problem, then we are denying reality and being dishonest. (Selwyn Hughes, Every Day Light, Day 66) 12/Mar/2011 8:36
