World Situation

... life, economics, and the weather resist most of our efforts to control them.  (Casey and Vanceburg, The Promise Of A New Day, 30 November)

"Great spirits have always encountered violent opposition from mediocre minds."  (Albert Einstein in Wisdom Of The Ages by Dr. Wayne W. Dyer, p. 222)

There are certain things in which a man cannot change his mind but must abide forever by the choice he has made. (William Barclay, The Letter To The Hebrews, p. 184)

I don't know how you view the world situation, but, it seems obvious to me that things are in a desperate state.  (Selwyn Hughes, Every Day Light, Day 354)

Responsibility

Sideling Hill on Interstate 68 in Maryland

... responsibility for the pain that accompanies poor choice is always our own.  (Casey and Vanceburg, The Promise Of A New Day, 18 November)

Last night I was channel surfing when I noticed they were showing Part One of a two-part program about Woody Allen on PBS.  One thing I liked about this program was that Woody Allen himself talked about many aspects of his life.  Often this type of program relies on what others remember, rather than interviews with the featured person.  They showed the program twice.  That allowed me to watch the  part of the program I'd missed before I found it.  They talked about many Woody Allen movies I haven't seen.  I was particularly interested in the black and white film, Manhattan.  I was also reminded how much I enjoyed his movie Bananas many years ago.

Skype seems to be broken.  It crashes when I attempt to view my own profile.  This is the second time there have been problems running the program on my laptop.  I'm getting frustrated.

Suspension

To wait for someone else, or to expect someone else to make my life richer, or fuller, or more satisfying, puts me in a constant state of suspension.  (Kathleen Tierney Andrus in The Promise Of A New Day by Casey and Vanceburg, 23 October) 16 November 2011

Don't Borrow Trouble

When you borrow trouble you probably won't be asked to pay it back.  (Richard Henthorn after Casey and Vanceburg, The Promise Of A New Day, 5 November)  8 November 2011

Yesterday Melva and I went to Emmitsburg, MD to visit the National Shrine Grotto of Lourdes.  It was a beautiful day.  The trees were still showing lots of color.  We stopped to shop at two roadside stands.  We ate lunch at the Cozy Inn buffet in Thurmont, MD.  Thurmont is near Camp David, MD where the President has a weekend retreat.

I think the problem I was having with Skype disappeared when I turned off the screen on the laptop and just used the larger monitor.  I added two more contacts.  Cyndi got Skype working with the netbook computer and talked with her friend in Germany.

I regret that I converted some of my music files to the WMA format rather than the MP3 format.  The MP3 format works nicely with Spotify, Google Music and Box.net.  I found and installed a program that converts from WMA to MP3.  It converted several files without any problem.

I needed to convert a Powerpoint slide show to a PDF file.  My first attempt using Google Docs didn't work properly.  On some slides the footer text moved up into the text of the slides.  Last night I found an online conversion program which accomplished the task.  Today I'll upload the slide show to the computer club website.

If you are interested in recording the streaming audio from some Internet radio stations take a look at StreamWriter.  There are over five thousand stations in the list the program can access.  It's possible to record from more than one station at a time.

War No More

Let's not confuse war with patriotism; we're all citizens of the whole world, and war hurts our human family.  (Casey and Vanceburg, The Promise Of A New Day, 18 October)  23 October 2011

Serenity

Make an effort to open your mind to experiencing things directly before proclaiming them as true and living by them.  (Dr. Wayne W. Dyer, Wisdom of the Ages, p. 8)

When you are offended at any man's fault, turn to yourself and study your own failings.  Then you will forget your anger.  (Epictetus in The Promise Of A New Day by Casey and Vanceburg, 11 August)

Our Vision

... there comes a point when we begin to question what we are told and to feel that our own vision is probably as keen as anyone's.  (Casey and Vanceburg, The Promise Of A New Day, 2 September) 6 September 2011

Serious Times

Whatever you do takes time, and yet it is always now. (Eckhart Tolle, A New Earth, p. 266)

In any realm of life success depends on obedience to the word of the expert.  (William Barclay, The Letter to the Hebrews, p. 34)

No Man Need Stay The Way He Is, (Title of a Fosdick sermon in The Letters To Timothy by William Barclay, p. 251)

Each of us must make our way through these serious times, carefully ordering our priorities and doing what we need to do to safeguard our spiritual growth.  (Casey and Vanceburg, The Promise Of A New Day, 6 August)

Yesterday I spent the afternoon in Bowie, MD.  I attended the computer club meeting at the Senior Center.  I assisted with setting up and breaking down the room.  Florence brought her desktop computer running Windows XP. We connected the computer to the projector.  She needed some help with with the use of her floppy and CD drives.  The computer was quite slow even when it was hard wired to the Internet.  After the meeting Bob B. made several changes in an attempt to eliminate the problems.

After the club meeting I went to the libraries in Bowie and Crofton to return books and CDs.  I checked out ten more CDs from Crofton.  I selected several CDs by country artists who are new to me.

This is my second day using the new Blogger editor.  I like it so far.  The Label entry works better and the formatting commands are better.  The Preview displays how the page will actually look.  Overall I give them a "thumbs up."

Quality Of Life

The quality of our life isn't measured by our degrees or possessions but by our behavior.  (Casey and Vanceburg, The Promise Of A New Day, 23 July)

On this day I will choose a project I have not devoted my entire attention to and attend to it.  (Eric V. Copage, Black Pearls, 3 August)

Despair can seem the only realistic response to problems that are too deeply rooted or long-standing.  (Larsen and Hegarty, Believing In Myself, 5 June)

It would be a great thing to die knowing that we had never in our lives transgressed the rules of honor and of honesty in the race of life.  (William Barclay, The Letters To Timothy, p. 242)

I'm test driving a new Blogger editor today.  I hope it will fix a couple of problems I noticed in the past.  Sometimes I couldn't change the font color and sometimes I couldn't added new labels. Here's a test of changing font size and color.

Hard Drive Conversion to USB

When we do not learn from the past or hear God and obey Him in the present, we destroy our future. (Warren W. Wiersbe, Chapter-by-Chapter Bible Commentary, p. 513)

... bad decisions always result in bad consequences. (Billy Graham, Hope For Each Day, 25 June)

Yesterday I installed the hard drive from my old Dell laptop in an external drive case that I bought at a computer store. The USB cable allowed me to connect the drive to my new laptop and thus read the drive again. I'm having fun looking at all the genealogy PDFs I found on this drive. I don't remember how many of these reports I made available in the past. If you have access to my Box.net account watch to see what I make available.

The Ego

A public statement is nothing without the private effort to back it up. (Eric V. Copage, Black Pearls, 31 July)

Stress always diminishes both the quality and effectiveness of what you do under its influence. There is also a strong link between stress and negative emotions, such as anxiety and anger. (Eckhart Tolle, A New Earth, p. 302)

The attitude expressed on any occasion will profoundly affect the dynamics of the situation. (Casey and Vanceburg, The Promise Of A New Day, 8 June)

The ego is a self-justifying historian which seeks only that information that agrees with it, rewrites history when it needs to, and does not even see the evidence that threatens it. (Anthony G. Greenwald in The Promise Of A New Day by Casey and Vanceburg, 22 May)
