Letdown

It is a hard but easily forgotten lesson that a goal completed is always followed by a letdown. The joy resides in the process. (Karen Casey and Martha Vanceburg, The Promise of a New Day, 22 March)

I started a review of the MCC of OGS webpages to determine if all of the links are working. Quite a few of them need work. Some pages don't have a "Home" button and some "Home buttons don't work. I tested one Email address to make sure it is still active.

I'm still waiting for the tax preparer to correct the error they made on our taxes. I'm miffed because I wrote about the problem on the worksheet and spoke about it during the interview. It's typical Washington, DC business service.

College classmate, Jim Rowe, called me from Renton, WA last night. We had a nice long talk.

Weekend Report

It is difficult to overcome the habit of setting standards for our ... [loved ones], and expecting them to be followed. (One Day At A Time In Al-Anon, 12 August)

This weekend I enjoyed phone calls with: classmate Thad, cousin Fran and genealogy friend Doug. The calls reminded me that it takes some effort to stay in touch.

I posted an article I wrote about Box.Net on my Google genealogy blog. I granted access to my genealogy reports to several friends who hold similar interests. I also posted the URL for the genealogy site created by Doug.

I watched all, or part, of many of the games in the Little League World Series. Japan beat Hawaii in the final yesterday.

This and That

You can't live a long time and not have trouble.

It's going to be very hot today. We are now in the fifth day of water usage restrictions. We will probably lose some of our plants before this is all over.

Yesterday former co-worker, Noel, called from Florida. I enjoyed the conversation.

I bought another CD with photographs. This one is from National Geographic. I also got a nice Reba McIntire CD - Love Revival.

I'm working on a big genealogy edit project. I'm making changes to my Conger GEDCOM file that I want to load into RootsMagic. I expect to be working on the project for several weeks.

Phone Calls

I am an individual with the right to a good life. I must not look to anyone else to make a good life for me, this I must do for myself. (One Day At A Time In Al-Anon, 16 January)

I have been given certain tools with which to run my life, and the free will to use them. (One Day At A Time In Al-Anon, 3 February)

I enjoyed two nice long phone conversations yesterday. I talked with former co-worker, Noel, and I talked with genealogy friend, Jo. We had a good time remember things we did together. Have you called a friend or relative lately?

Phone Calls

We suffer from the past, and we spoil our future because we neglect the present. (Anonymous, A Calendar of Wisdom, Leo Tolstoy, 17 November)

Every person should make a small effort, even the smallest effort, to improve the general well-being of humanity. (Anonymous, A Calendar of Wisdom, Leo Tolstoy, 18 December)

... honor people and their process even when it looks dysfunctional by your standards. (Iyanla Vanzant, Until Today!, 16 December)

We are still waiting for the snowplow to return. We think they only came once. In a way that's a good thing because we haven't had to clear the end of the driveway over and over.

Yesterday I enjoyed phone conversations with former co-worker, Noel, and high school friend, Thad. Both Thad and I can take advantage of unlimited long distance calling.

Phone Calls

The purpose of your life is not to do as the majority does, but to live according to the inner law which you understand in yourself. Do not act against your conscience or against the truth. Live like this, and you will fulfill the task of your life. (Marcus Aurelius in A Calendar of Wisdom by Leo Tolstoy, 23 October)

Don't let life discourage you; everyone who got where he is had to begin where he was. (Richard L. Evans in One More Day by Sefra Kobrin Pitzele, 16 October)

The educated person sins greatly if he continues to behave in a way he knows is wrong. (Anonymous in A Calendar of Wisdom by Leo Tolstoy, 24 September)

I'm behind one day in my daily reading. It seems as soon as I catch up I'm willing to slack off the next day. I think today is the 298th day of the year. I need to stay on top of my reading program if I am going to finish all of the books on the last day of the year. I've already set aside two stacks of books that I want to read in 2010.

This morning I had a nice long phone conversation with one of my former co-workers from The Library of Congress. I'm trying to remember to take advantage of the fact that we now have unlimited long distance calling. During the week I called, Jo, my long friend in genealogy. We also keep in touch via Email.

I've been reading some of the accounts about the Vietnam tours of duty written by members of the 1099th Transportation Company (Medium Boat). I'm impressed. I don't think I had much of an idea about what was going on in this unit while I was in Vietnam. I take my hat off to all of the men who served in that unit.
