Goals
Today I can set my goals with the clear and confident knowledge that I can only do one thing at a time and take one step at a time towards that goal to be happy and satisfied. I am fulfilled with each step, knowing that is all I can do in each moment.

Abilities
Some people, well aware of their abilities, believe that they have the right to use their abilities as they please. Others feel they have no special talents at all. But everyone has some gifts; find yours and use them. All our abilities should be used in serving others, none are for our exclusive enjoyment.

Depression and Melancholy
[Depression can] ... at least momentarily ... [wipe] out our happiness, and ... [send] us off into fundamental appraisals of our knowledge, our assumptions, and the very purposes of our existence.
(Thomas Moore, Care Of The Soul, p. 143)
Melancholy gives the soul an opportunity to express a side of its nature that is as valid as any other, but is hidden out of our distaste for its darkness and bitterness.

Give It!
... there are ... [many] ways to practice sacrificial love: listening, helping, encouraging, giving! Think of someone in particular who needs this kind of love today -- and give it!
(The One Year Book Of Bible Readings, 26 September)
When you feel grateful for something others have done for you, why not tell them about it?

Broken Heart
Not only is a broken heart inevitable from time to time, it is one of the primary emotional rites of passage into maturity.

Free Will
We can use free will to opt for change or improvement.
Are there changes or improvements you can make in your life? Remember you are free to change these things whenever you are ready.

Opportunity
The pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity; the optimist, the opportunity in every difficulty.

Clearing Your House of Clutter
Do not do anything that you can persuade someone else to do. Take the time to train others to organize your things the way you like them, even if it means allowing a few minor slip-ups to happen while they get up to speed. If you can afford it hire extra help.
Always ask yourself, whenever you buy a new piece of clothing, appliance, or other type of thing how much time this purchase will take to maintain.

Perfectionism
When you strive for perfection, you compare different versions of what could be instead of being present with what is. Perfectionism is an attempt to inhabit an imaginary world in order to avoid experiencing the world in which you live.

Wasted Time
Dick Henthorn at the Neptune Plaza of the Library of Congress
All of us have far too much to do to waste our time and energies in criticism, fault-finding, or abuse of others.
(Gordon B. Hinckley, Stand A Little Taller, 3 May)
I won't waste any more of my life. I will make the most of every minutes and resolve not to let precious time slip away.

Responsibility
U.S. Postal Museum - photo by Mr. Dickie
Every one of us has the responsibility to help those in need, no matter our age or the circumstances of our lives. People are counting on us. Let's do the best we can as often as we can.

Limitations
We need to recognize life's limitations, particularly our own. That doesn't mean that we neglect to do our best. On the contrary, it means gaining a clearer understanding of what God expects us to do with the time He entrusts to us.

Choose To Live
Choose to live your life as fully and as well as you can, not only for your own sake, but also for the good of others. Never be afraid to be yourself -- the unique person that our creator means you to be.

I Am Not Powerless
I am not powerless over my attitudes.
I am not powerless over negativity.
I am not powerless over assuming responsibility for my own ... [action or lack thereof].
I have the power to exert a positive influence on myself, my loved ones, and the world in which I live.

Detachment
Detachment is the difference between emotional involvement and emotional awareness. Detachment allows you to see your emotions as they form, develop, intensify, and change.
